Successful Participation in the Data Space Hackathon – Future Energy Lab

Manuel Lehner from the "DiMIS" chair and Florian Himmelsbach from the "FORWISS" research institute at the University of Passau were able to participate as the "OMEI" team in the Data Space Hackathon 2025 at the Future Energy Lab in Berlin (August 19-21, 2025) after successfully applying. The goal was to address previously unknown challenges related to the topic of "Using a Defined Data Space" in the energy sector.

All of the data space tasks were completed, and in the application case, their focus was on developing a data-based approach for predicting photovoltaic yields (PV forecasting) and the optimized charging of energy storage systems – entirely in line with the research questions of the OMEI project and the principles of interoperability and data economy.

The application demonstrated how decentralized energy generation can be made more efficient – data-driven, interoperable, and scalable, even with a small, growing prototype of the data room. The team was particularly pleased that the assets they created had already been used by other hackathon participants.

Many thanks go to Dena of the Future Energy Lab and the Fraunhofer IEE for the management platform and the opportunity to participate in this pioneering initiative.
